The Gladwyne Barn Project
Kitchen
Part of a pre-Revolutionary-era stone barn in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania this 400-square-foot kitchen is nestled under an office loft to showcase the home’s unique shape while creating an intimate setting. Custom American cherry cabinets by Crystal Cabinet Words and an undulating island are topped with Giallo California granite and outfitted with iron cabinet hardware made by a local blacksmith. Appliances by Asko, Sub-Zero, and GE, including a downdraft range by Jenn-Air, are discreetly integrated to allow the beauty of wood to shine.
Bath
Located in the basement, this 125-square-foot bathroom features a sunken shower ensconced in what was once the entry to the cellar. A glass ceiling has replaced the original storm cellar doors and allows daylight to penetrate the shower, as well as a view of the surrounding landscape. Radiant heating keeps the tumbled marbled walls and floor warm and toasty in the winter, and custom hand-thrown ceramic sinks add character to the vanity.
